From Sideways Through Sound:
P.J. Philipson is a producer and guitarist based in Manchester. Known for his playing with Starless & Bible Black (Locust Music) and The Woodbine & Ivy Band (Folk Police Recordings), and his production work for Nancy Elizabeth (Leaf Records), his stunning debut album will surprise long-term admirers of his work.
'Peaks' comprises solo stereo delay guitar pieces recorded entirely live one summer night in a Manchester church. Melodic, rhythmic, inventive and spacious, Philipson's playing in Peaks takes its cue from innovators like Robert Fripp, Vini Reilly, Robin Guthrie, Michael Rother and Richard Skelton, but has a fully-realised concept unique to itself. Each track is titled and based around locations in north-west Derbyshire in England's Peak District, creating a strong sense of place and emotional attachment.
