An Early Summer Tease - Ben Sollee

You may've noticed there was not May mix. That's because I've combined May and June for an early summer mix - capturing the warming nights and fireflys, but not quite beachtastic weather.
I've finally got the songs chosen, but before I post it all up I wanted to introduce you to some quality music from Ben Sollee. He rocks the cello (which more than a few of my musical friends have dabbled with) and folk-rock from good ol' Kentucky (a place we've all spent a week or two in). Anyways, here's the video done with a local modern dance group Ben Sollee works with to the song I'll have on the mix. Enjoy the track and check out more of his music at:http://www.myspace.com/bensollee.

Song/Video of the Moment: Sam Issac "Sideways"
So, I've been really digging this song because I stumbled across a German cover of it during my pursuing of Hype Machine. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll be putting the cover on my January mix (yes... it's already in the works). That said, I wanted to hear the original of it, to at least understand what the German lyrics were and I found a cute little video for the song.
or watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hadBMlOC0_E
Anyways, was I the only one who felt inspired to throw a Cake party (you know where everyone brings a cake) after watching this? Oh.. I was? Well then!

Sigur Ros's Heima
Sigur Ros is one of those bands that I so desperately need to see live one day. They recently released a DVD about shows that they played around Iceland and their relationship with their home country. Watching the trailer, which is shot just as beautifully as their music videos, captures that beauty. It also however totally reminds me of Kuyananniskatsi which is mildly hilarious, though in some respects not that surprising. Fortunately Sigur Ros is much more quality than Philip Glass. That said, I think Chris, the only person I know who likes Philip Glass, would truly appreciate this DVD, since he does also love Sigur Ros (I think we once tried to go to one of their shows, but I was in DC if I remember correctly). Anyways, I figured I would share the trailer of the DVD since it is gorgeous and only makes me want to journey to Iceland even more now. So enjoy!

2007 Worst Song Mixtape Challenge
Based on the Human Giant/Aziz is Bored Challenge, I am calling upon my friends for a similar challenge. Watch it here:
Here's the details:
1. Pick 10 of the worst songs to listen to into a playlist (all cover songs must come from albums and not live TV appearances or concerts)
2. Submit the playlist to House 3 Apt 141C by Friday April 20th, Midnight
3. That night those involved will gather to choose the winners and losers
4. The Winner's playlist will be played during a heavily populated case event
5. The Winner will choose what songs from the playlist the losers get to sing and/or dance along to
So anyways, if you're in on this, comment back or let me know (there are already 4 people in on this, so you best give into peer pressure and join in on the fun!)
