"Adverbs" by Daniel Handler

So this semester I've picked up reading again. It's been nice to read again, but tough since through most of the semester I had some long days. It's funny tough because I have yet to finish any of the books I started so far, but I really want to!

The latest novel to the collection is "Adverbs" by Daniel Handler (Wesleyan University '92). While some know Handler as Lemony Snicket, I wasn't drawn to his third "adult" book for that reason. I never read the Unfortunate Events series, or even seen the movie. However, I read a pretty decent review of "Adverbs" in the Post and its set-up drew my interest.

So, after spending a week of searching in the occasional bookstore, I was finally able to pick it up yesterday, before heading to Cafe Jappone for Open Mic Comedy Night (a story for another day perchance). Yes, since its a new release & hardback it cost a certain amount of money more than my -$5 a week budget, but literature is so worth it. I actually had to restrain myself from buying any other books (there was a french renaissance history book that I wanted, along with about 10 dif. intruiging novels).

While, I've only read the first 4 or 5 chapters (they're all pretty short), it's been pretty witty and funny thus far. The reason I was interested is because, more or less, each chapter is a different short story, except not. They may or may not run together, sometimes you can't tell if the 'Andrea' in one story is the same 'Andrea' in another. All of the stories revolve around everyone's favorite topic: Love. Seriously though, it's just fun to try and figure things out. Just understanding who the narrorator is can take a bit of time.

So, as I go on, and hopefully actually finish "Adverbs" I will let you know if my opinoins change. If anyone wants to borrow it (I'm sure I'll make Stentz read it), just ask!
